Pocket can read your articles out loud using Android's built-in Text To Speech (TTS) feature. TTS uses a digitally generated voice to read text, and is processed on your device so no internet connection is required.
To start listening to an article, open the article, tap your device's menu button, tap the overflow menu, and tap Listen.
For best results, please specify the article's language. This will tell TTS how to pronounce the text correctly. TTS will not translate the text. If the language is not set properly, the speech may sound distorted.
To change the language/voice, tap the Written Article Language drop-down menu while listening.
Your Android device comes with a few languages preinstalled, but more can be downloaded.
To download more languages, open your device's Text To Speech settings. On most devices this can be found within your Accessibility or your Language & Input Settings. If additional languages are available for your default TTS Engine, they may be listed there.
You can download additional text-to-speech engines from the app market (Google Play). This will let you choose from even more voices and languages. Search for "Text to Speech" or "TTS" in your market app.
After downloading is complete, you’ll need to select the new engine. Just go to Settings in Pocket, find the "Text to Speech Engine" option, and select the engine you wish to use.
